Experience Shows Your Real Friends
I feel like my hubby & I are about about to start a brand new life chapter. After attending the same church for around 15 years, we feel like it is time to move on to another church. There are no hurt feelings or anger on our part, it's just time.
With that said, there are probably people at our "old" church that are feeling anger or hurt (or will when they hear about us leaving). We can't be responsible for that. We are doing what we feel is best for us and what the Lord wants for us. They can chose to respect it or not.
I feel like you really find out who your REAL friends are in times like these. There are some people that contact you just to find out the dirt. In other words, they just want to know if you are mad at someone. There are some you will never hear from again...and that's okay. There are some YOU have to make sure YOU contact them because you can't stand the thought of them finding out from anyone else. Plus, you want to make sure they know the real reason behind it (can be handled with a simple text).
Then the last group, the ones that you must pick up the phone and call. This is the hardest group. You must tell them in actual words not through text or through the grapevine. A subgroup of this is the one you can't call (because the words are too hard), so you write them a letter exposing your heart. You hope they read it with your intent and understand.
I have one person in the subgroup. So far, I haven't heard back from the letter, but I'm hoping she was receptive to it and one day will understand. I'm afraid she is hurt right now, so there I nothing else I can do.
I'm sure we have forgotten someone we should have told. I'm sure there will still be some backlash because we have only been out one Sunday (most people probably thought we were sick). Oh well...it is what it is now. We haven't moved to another planet. We are in the same house, city, and state. We just won't be sitting in "our seats" every Sunday. Who knows...we may have been keeping someone away because we waited so long to leave! ;)
So, now that we are moving forward, we are excited and nervous about the search for our next church home. We are praying that God will give us clarity and direction for our search. The Bible verse for today is one of my favorites. My prayer for our search:

"And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left."
