Good People Do Exist!

There are some good people in this world. I know I know...you know this all ready. Really though, there are some GOOD people in this world. I have the privilege of working with two of them. When I tell you this story, I want you to know this isn't about me. This is really a tale of two men that love the Lord.

You see, I work at a church. It is a good church with good people. I care about them. We have a new youth minister on staff. He has been here a couple of months. In that time, he has made quite an impression on the congregation with his work ethic and passion for the job. Believe me they notice these things!

Also on staff, we have an interim pastor. By that, in case you are unfamiliar with the term, I mean he is a temporary pastor until they are able to find a permanent replacement for the position. He is one of the nicest, most caring men you will ever meet. He really strives to do the Lord's will and lives what he says. Good man!

I am blessed and I do mean BLESSED to work with these two men. I do not take this time for granted.

Well, the interim pastor decided to GIVE the youth minister a truck. You see, he buys vehicles, restores them, and sometimes resells them. The youth minister quit his higher paying job to come here, sold his truck to down size, and was driving an older vehicle (not sure what shape it was in -- looked well worn). This truck is an older body style, but with a new paint job, new motor, and runs like a dream.

While I am bragging on how wonderful the older pastor is for doing such a nice thing for the younger pastor, I want to make another point about the situation. If the younger pastor had come in here with a lack-luster attitude and not worked so hard in such a short period of time, I don't think the idea would have been in the older pastor's heart to be such a blessing to him. Granted, the Lord can plant ideas in your mind and change hearts...I know. I'm just talking in generalities. I think because the younger pastor has displayed such a heart for the church and the Lord's work in such a short period of time, that people are taking notice. They want to be a blessing to him just as he is blessing them! He is seeing it everywhere he turns. He has been amazed at how people WANT to help him do things and be there for him when he wants to plan things for the youth.

I think this is a life lesson for us all. If you work hard and do a good job, people will notice. They may not GIVE you a vehicle (I'm sure that's rare), but they may bless you in other ways.

I have this verse hanging in my office. I think it is very fitting for today.
