It's for the Birds...
I was just getting ready to write this blog; I was looking at verses related to sparrows. I don't know why, but I just felt like I wanted to see what was there. I know my sister loves sparrows. She sells artwork under the name of "SparrowGalleryShop" on Etsy, but mostly by word of mouth to friends & family.
So anyway, I popped on Facebook for a few minutes (not something I do very much these days). The first post I see is a post from a friend talking about her "love/hate relationship" with birds and her porch. I'm thinking...what's up with all of this bird stuff all of the sudden?
Well, in full disclosure, I definitely have a love/hate relationship -- that is more hate than love -- with birds. We have birds that hang out on our front columns and poop all over the place. They land on our porch (hanging) light fixture and poop. They sometimes build a nest in the wreath in the front door and...oh my, the mess that makes. Once the eggs are laid, you can't do a thing with it until they hatch and leave the nest. Needless, to say, I don't like birds near our front door...which is EXACTLY where they want to be for some reason!
So...birds are not my favorites now! WHY was I searching for sparrows in the Bible? Going through all that is happening in our lives right now (referenced in the last couple of posts), this verse stood out to me. I think the Lord wanted me to read these verses again. They spoke to me in a new way. I've read & heard these verses many times, but today, they are speaking to my heart. I'm not just hearing the words. Okay...I guess I'm going to rethink my relationship with birds now!
Read them. I mean REALLY read them. He's telling us not to worry...He's got us because he cares for us!

“This is why I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? Can any of you add a single cubit to his height by worrying? And why do you worry about clothes? Learn how the wildflowers of the field grow: they don’t labor or spin thread. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these! If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t He do much more for you—you of little faith? So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For the idolaters eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
Matthew 6:25–34
